Home Fall Checklist

Summer is over and the weather is starting to cool down. This fall season you will want to begin preparing your home for winter. To make this task easier we compiled a to-do list to help you.
Here is a Fall Maintenance Checklist
1. Seal the exterior of your home
Buy a couple tubes of caulk and inspect the exterior of your home. Seal the cracks on all your windows, siding, doorways, and pipes. This will not only prevent water from seeping in your home but also make your home more energy efficient.
3. Inspect your roof
Check your roof for any loose, damaged, or missing shingles. You should also look out for any shingles that are buckled or cracked. If you notice any trouble spots call a roofer and have them give you an evaluation.
4. Remove all hoses and drain sprinklers
Don't forget to remove all hoses and sprinklers from the nozzles. Drain them and store them inside your garage or shed.
5. Clean your gutters
Make sure your gutters and downspouts are cleaned. You will want to remove all leaves, debris, twigs and gunk. This will allow your gutter to function properly and disperse any water away from your home.
6. Check furnace
Hire a heating and cooling pro to inspect your furnace and tune it for the winter season. Also, change your furnace filter immediately. Change it every couple months.
7. Check fireplace
If you own a fireplace, check to make sure the damper opens and closes. Check the flue to make sure it is free of trees and branches, bird nests, or any other intrusions. Check the outside of the chimney to ensure there are no cracks or missing bricks or mortar.
